Looking for a refreshing treat? This Avocolada Tropical Smoothie Cafe copycat is the perfect blend of tropical flavors using the creamy texture of avocado. It truly does taste like a creamy pina colada! If you want to save a few bucks, use fresh ingredients, and make this Tropical Smoothie Cafe favorite at home, this is all you need!

    this …

I love using whole-food ingredients to recreate our favorite recipes. This Avocolada smoothie utilizes the superfood avocado for its good fats and nutritional benefits. My family loves smoothies, and our high-speed blender has made us love them even more.

Instead of processed juices or added sugars, we let the natural sweetness of pineapple shine through, with a touch of maple syrup (or your natural sweetener of choice).

If you love Tropical Smoothie Cafe, check out some of our favorites like the Avocolada, Detox Island Green, and Bahama Mama.

Our secret to matching the consistency is using frozen fruit!

    💛 Why You'll Love It

    • Creamy avocado and pineapple blend feels like a tropical treat but with wholesome, clean ingredients
    • No refined sugars-natural sweetness from fruit and a touch of maple syrup keeps it light and nourishing
    • Ready in 5 minutes-perfect for busy mornings or a refreshing post-workout boost
    • Naturally gluten-free and dairy-free
    • Packed with healthy fats, vitamins, and fiber-supports steady energy and vibrant well-being

    Ingredients

Ingredients for Avocolada smoothie displayed on a wooden surface, including frozen pineapple chunks, fresh spinach, coconut milk, lime juice, maple syrup, and an avocado.

Avocado: Packed with healthy fats and fiber, a ripe avocado adds a creamy texture to this smoothie. Choose avocados that are slightly soft to the touch for the best quality.

Coconut Milk: I use full-fat canned coconut milk for a rich and creamy base, but you can also use fresh or carton coconut milk as long as it's organic with natural ingredients on the label. Check out my article comparing canned coconut milk vs coconut milk in a carton, to learn the differences!

Frozen Pineapple: This tropical fruit is high in vitamin C and an enzyme called bromelain. Pineapple adds a natural sweetness to the smoothie. Using frozen pineapple helps create a thick, cold consistency.

Baby Spinach: Organic baby spinach is a great source of vitamins and minerals, including iron and vitamin K. You can use fresh or frozen spinach, but organic fresh spinach is best.

    Substitutions and Variations

Sweetener: For a sweeter smoothie, you can use additional maple syrup or raw honey. For a keto sweetener try monk fruit instead of maple syrup. Monk fruit is a great natural, low-calorie sweetener.

Avocado: If you don't have avocado, a great option is to use a banana for its similarly creamy texture and natural sweetness.

How to Make Avocolada Tropical Smoothie Cafe Copycat

Top view of a blender filled with fresh spinach leaves, frozen pineapple chunks, avocado, and coconut milk ready to be blended for an Avocolada smoothie.

Step 1: Add ½ cup of coconut milk, frozen pineapple chunks, avocado, fresh spinach, and lime juice to a high-speed blender. Blend on high until the mixture is mostly smooth.

Blender with partially blended green smoothie mixture, additional coconut milk added, and sides scraped down.

Step 2: Scrape down the sides of the blender. If it is too thin, add ice cubes and blend again. If the smoothie is too thick, add more coconut milk a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Close-up of a spatula holding a dollop of thick, creamy green Avocolada smoothie mixture over the blender.

Step 3: Taste the smoothie. If needed, adjust the sweetness by adding additional maple syrup to taste. Blend again briefly to mix it in.

Blender with a smooth, creamy green Avocolada smoothie mixture after the final blend.

Step 4: Pour the smoothie into a glass. Garnish with a pineapple slice, lime wheel, or a sprinkle of shredded coconut, if desired.

Hint: Using a High-Speed Blender is ideal. If you are working with a standard blender, be sure to slowly add ingredients, starting with the liquid and soft ingredients first and frozen fruit last.

    Expert Nutrition Tip

Freeze your own pineapple cores using a pineapple corer and drop them in your smoothie. They have a higher concentration of bromelain for an anti-inflammatory boost!

Tip: For best results, use a high-speed blender. If using a standard blender, blend in smaller amounts slowly at a time with the liquid ingredients first to ensure smoothness.

The coconut milk and pineapple create a wonderful flavor combination in this tropical smoothie. It really does have tropical vibes! I love your idea to enjoy this after a workout. I added 1 teaspoon of maple syrup but I think next time I'll boost that to two for a touch of added sweetness.
