Ingredients

🥜 Natural Organic Peanut Butter: Choose a peanut butter made with only peanuts and salt. Avoid added oils and sugars. Natural peanut butter gives the filling a rich flavor and cleaner ingredient profile.
🥥 Coconut Flour: Feel free to use any flour that you prefer. Einkorn, Almond Flour, or Unbleached All-Purpose Flour work well, too.
🥥 Coconut Oil: Coconut oil helps create a smooth peanut butter filling and also thins the chocolate slightly for easier dipping. If your coconut oil is solid, simply warm it gently until melted.
🍫 Dark Chocolate Chips: Look for chocolate chips made with minimal ingredients, such as cacao, cocoa butter, and a natural sweetener. Semi-sweet or dark chocolate usually works best.

How to Make Peanut Butter Easter Eggs

Step 1: Mix the wet ingredients
In a medium bowl, mix the peanut butter, melted coconut oil, vanilla, maple syrup, and sea salt until smooth and well combined.

Step 2: Add the flour
Add the flour a little at a time and mix until the mixture forms a thick paste that is easy to mold with your hands.

Step 3: Shape the eggs
Shape the peanut butter mixture into small egg shapes and place them evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 4: Melt the chocolate
Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 20 minutes so the eggs can firm up. While they are chilling, heat a small pot of water until simmering and place a bowl on top to create a double boiler. Add the chocolate chips gradually and stir as they melt. Once melted, stir in the coconut oil.

Step 5: Dip the eggs
Remove the eggs from the freezer and dip each one into the melted chocolate using a fork. Let the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl before placing the egg back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 6: Chill and enjoy
Once all the eggs are coated, place the tray back in the freezer to allow the chocolate to set. Remove the eggs, let them sit for a minute or two, and enjoy.
Hint: If the peanut butter mixture feels a little soft while shaping the eggs, place the bowl in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. This will firm it up slightly and make it much easier to mold into smooth egg shapes.
Expert Tip
Use two forks when dipping the eggs. One fork can hold the peanut butter egg while the second fork helps spoon chocolate over the top and gently guide the egg back onto the parchment paper.
If you'd like to add toppings, sprinkle flaky sea salt or crushed peanuts on the eggs right after dipping and before placing them back in the freezer so they stick to the chocolate.
Peanut Butter Easter Eggs FAQs
The peanut butter filling needs to be firm before dipping. Freezing the eggs for about 20 minutes helps them hold their shape. When dipping, allow the excess chocolate to drip off before placing them back on the parchment paper.
Yes. If you do not have coconut flour, you can use other flours such as almond flour or oat flour. Add it slowly until the mixture becomes thick enough to mold.
Chocolate can thicken if it overheats or cools too quickly. Keeping it over a gentle double boiler and stirring occasionally helps maintain a smooth dipping consistency.
After dipping, allow the excess chocolate to drip off before placing the egg on parchment paper. If a small chocolate "foot" forms around the bottom after it sets, you can gently trim it with a knife or warm your finger slightly and smooth the edge.
Store-bought Reese's peanut butter eggs contain ingredients like milk chocolate, sugar, peanuts, dextrose, salt, TBHQ (a preservative), and emulsifiers such as soy lecithin and PGPR to help stabilize the chocolate.
While they are a popular Easter treat, many people prefer to make homemade peanut butter Easter eggs so they can use simpler ingredients like natural peanut butter, maple syrup, coconut oil, and dark chocolate.
Making them at home allows you to skip many of the additives and keep the ingredient list much shorter.

Notes
- Use natural peanut butter made with only peanuts and salt for the best flavor and cleaner ingredients.
- Coconut flour absorbs moisture quickly, so add it gradually until the mixture forms a thick moldable paste.
- If the peanut butter mixture feels too soft, chill it briefly before shaping the eggs.
- Use two forks when dipping to help cover the eggs with chocolate and gently guide them back onto the parchment paper.
- Allow excess chocolate to drip off before placing the eggs down to prevent chocolate pooling around the base.
- Sprinkle flaky sea salt or crushed peanuts on top before the final freeze if desired.
